What are Accident Replacement Vehicles?
Here in New Zealand, vehicle owners are legally entitled to be placed back into a similar position after their not at fault accident. If your car was damaged, the party at fault must compensate you for the costs associated with the repair. This concept is known as demurrage. Demurrage was first applied to shipping, this term is now widely recognised in regards to car insurance. Demurrage is the expenses paid to the damaged vehicle owner in the event of downtime. With cars being crucial to daily life and productivity, temporarily losing a vehicle to an accident is detrimental. Not only is it costly to repair, but finding alternative transportation will also be imperative. As such, demurrage can also be applied to your rental car rate.
Is a accident loan car different to a rental car?
Yes, FURN & CO delivers the car to you at a time and location that is convenient to you. FURN & CO claim the rental costs from the at fault driver or their insurer on your behalf so you don't have to. When your car is repaired, we will pick our vehicle up from a location that suits you.

Who pays for the accident replacement vehicle?
Credit Hire: Once your car has been repaired or you have received settlement on a total loss, we will invoice the at-fault party for payment of the loan car on your behalf.
Direct Hire: If you require a direct hire from us, you will need to cover the costs prior to the vehicle being hired out.

What happens if the at fault insurer doesn't pay the invoice?
Unfortunately some times the insurer does not pay the bill for the rental car. If this is the case FURN&CO will commence legal proceedings in your name against the at fault party's insurer to recover the costs.

Will I need to pay for anything?
If you're not at fault you do not have to pay the daily rental fees or the delivery/pickup fee. These fees are payable by the at fault party or their insurer. You will need to cover additional costs which are associated with the hire or the full costs for any direct hires.
